The Urban and Rural Night Sky; My Trip to Batangas

The idea of buying a house in Batangas used to strike me as impractical. Heck, even knowing the idea that there are beach condos in Batangas that are up for sale kind of makes me wonder how filthy stinking rich do I have to be to not only afford that condo but spend time away from work to stay there?

I work in Makati. I do graveyard shift for some call center and go home to an apartment, rented solely by my. I seldom see neighbors as most of them have day jobs. I wake up around 6pm, eat, dress for work, work, go home and that’s about it for me every day for the past 15 months. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I needed a break—monotony kind of got to me and I really wanted to quit a well-paying job.

One morning, before going to work, I stopped to take in the city’s skyline.

I set out for Matabungkay on my next off days. Matabungkay is a little town in Lian, Batangas I remember going to as a kid in the 90s. It’s a small beach community with quaint accommodations and very shallow waters. I remember wallowing in the wave-less shores there and fall into a nap.

As usual, and as I excitedly expected, I was met with the familiar rural vibe that made me feel at home, safe, comfortable and so in touch with myself. I even rented out one of the floating cottages all to myself. I spent 3 days just eating, reading, talking to people, and napping. It was a lazy weekend and I found it to be just what I needed. Looking at all of it, I could make a living here and probably only spend some 600 pesos a week; it wouldn’t be the most luxurious life, but it would be a very simple and happy one.

The thing that almost got me to stay longer was the night sky. It was unlike any night sky that I was used to seeing in Makati. Not only were there stars, there were TONS of them! And there were ever meteor showers. There was so much I wasn’t seeing because I was blinded by city lights. I would call it a moment of epiphany.

So yeah, I guess from then on, I realized how much value living in a house or beach condo in Batangas has—on any other rurality for that matter. The urban life is definitely a good life but that doesn’t mean that the rural life isn’t. The city lights are just as promising as the night sky of the province.

I got back to work after the weekend with a better outlook on work, a bigger dream for myself, and plans of going back to Batangas—anywhere—and staying.

Underdeveloped but Wonderful: Simple Wonders of Batangas

Continued development of condos for sale in Calatagan, Batangas is a clear proof that the province has been growing positively. Surrounded by the West Philippine Sea, Batangas keeps a number of remote and underdeveloped beaches and islands that are all calm, quiet, and comforting just like the old Boracay. Simplicity. These islands were able to give man the closeness he seeks to experience with nature.

Being near to Manila, tourists (local and foreign) find beaches in the province as an easy weekend travel getaway. With just four to five hours of travel, anyone could enjoy the sun kissed beach and cool waters easily. And among the top beach destinations in Luzon, there are places that are so calm and “undeveloped” yet so pure and wonderful, not to mention budget-friendly.

Sepoc Point

A smaller island found at the tip of Maricaban Island in Batangas, Sepoc Point is a place where newly-hatched sea turtles can be found. It is called Sepoc Point because of the Sepoc trees which are believed to be growing endemically there. The place is calm and quiet, perfect for those longing relaxation.

Masasa Beach

A remote white sand beach located in the Island of Tingloy, Masasa Beach has a view of a beautiful sunset. Adventure doesn’t end with just exploring the beach area, tourists who loves extremes may start climbing Mt. Mag-asawang Bato. From the top of the mountain, explorers could view the whole of the Tingloy Island.

Burot Beach

Burot Beach is another remote white sand beach within the boundaries of Luzon. Located at Calatagan, Batangas, Burot Beach is a privately owned property yet still open (at this moment) for the public for just a small entrance fee. Entrance fee cost only 65 pesos for a day tour and 130 pesos for an overnight stay. There are no accommodation rooms and electricity available so staying in Burot Beach is literally going to end up as a camping trip. There are tent rentals available but tourists are allowed to bring in their own tents. They could also set bonfire and drink alcohol outside their tents for a simple beach party. However, as a responsibility to keep the beach clean, tourists are given trash bags upon their entrance to encourage them to leave no trace.

In addition to the beautiful experience is the fact that this beautiful all of it doesn’t have to cost as much as we think it would. Since there are no glamorous accommodations and due to the simplicity of the place, you can have your weekend for even less than a thousand pesos. Food and fare is the only thing you need to prepare and you could even save more if you travel in group. This makes these islands an easy and affordable get away from work and stress. No need to wait for summer, this adventure could always happen on one of your weekends.

And with those continually emerging condos for sale in Calatagan, Batangas, having an easy getaway trip to these beautiful places is even made easier—you’ll get to see the islands and have somewhere comfortable to live in.
